CFIUS encourages members of the public to report information about potential national security concerns related to foreign investment in the United States. Members of the public may contact Treasury with tips, referrals, or self-disclosures at CFIUS.Tips@treasury.gov or by clicking the “Submit a Tip” button below.
What to Report
Treasury welcomes relevant information about transactions and activities that may raise national security concerns, including:
- A contemplated or completed foreign investment in, or a foreign acquisition of, a U.S. business that may be within CFIUS’s purview and may raise national security concerns, including but not limited to U.S. businesses involved in critical technologies, critical infrastructure, and sensitive personal data;
- A contemplated or completed foreign purchase, lease, or concession of real estate within or in proximity to specific airports, maritime ports, or military installations;
- Incidents that may constitute an apparent violation of a CFIUS mitigation agreement, condition, or order, or which may otherwise implicate national security;
- Self-disclosure of a potential violation of CFIUS mitigation agreements, conditions, or orders, a mandatory filing requirement, or other applicable regulations; or
- Any other issue that may be of interest to Treasury or CFIUS relating to foreign investment and national security.
How to Submit a Tip
Tips can be submitted by email to CFIUS staff. All submissions are reviewed by CFIUS staff.
Tip submissions are not CFIUS filings. If you are a party to a transaction that may be subject to CFIUS jurisdiction, please see the Filing Instructions page.
What Happens After Submission
CFIUS staff review all tips submitted through the portal. Due to the confidential nature of CFIUS activities, CFIUS generally cannot provide updates on the status of tip reviews or confirm whether any action has been taken.
If CFIUS determines that additional information would be helpful, CFIUS staff may contact you using the contact information provided in your submission.
Confidentiality
CFIUS treats tip submissions as confidential to the extent permitted by law. Information submitted may be shared among CFIUS member agencies as necessary for the review of potential national security concerns.
Submitting a tip does not create any legal obligation for CFIUS to take action, nor does it establish any legal relationship between the submitter and CFIUS or the Department of the Treasury.
